Whom
is Kejriwal kidding?
The other day Arvind Kejriwal declared that his
political party, now christened as Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), will have no
president. That looked quite odd and funny. But now he has been elected as the
Convener of the Party. What does it all mean?
Whether you call the head of the party the
president, the chairman or the convener, it amounts to one and the same thing
because he/she becomes the head of the outfit. The communist parties in India,
whether CPI or CPM, have no president but have just general secretaries. But
does that mean that these political parties have no head?
Similarly different political parties have
different nomenclature for their main policy-making bodies. Some call them
executive committee, others call it core committee or parliamentary board or
some office-bearers or the like.
Does Kejriwal wish us to believe that his Aam
Aadmi Party is a headless organization? If so, what is the function of the
convener? Can anything happen without the consent of the convener? Will his
organization have no core committee or policy-making committee? If no, then who
will take policy decisions for the organization? Or will it be a one-man or
two-man show?
Kajriwal has also said that his party does not aim
to capture power. If that is so, what for is the AAP? One wishes to capture
power to be able to do himself the things he thinks are best for the nation.
Does he mean that he aims at being in power for all the times to come so that
he can always be on the wrong side of the government?
Politics, in a way, is art of befooling the people
into making them believe what the leaders do not mean or vice versa.
Since
Kajriwal has now floated a political organization, he remains no different. He also
seems to be kidding the aam aadmi.
